Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is adding its first-ever sensory rooms to provide calming spaces for travelers experiencing stress or sensory overload.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) is partnering with Minnesota nonprofit Fraser to design the rooms, which will be part of terminal expansion projects completed by 2027 and 2028.
One room will open in Terminal 2 North in early 2027, and a second in Terminal 1's Concourse G in 2028, featuring dimmable lighting, diverse seating, and sensory-friendly furnishings.

The project expands MSP's accessibility efforts, which already include programs such as Navigating MSP, accessible restrooms with adult changing tables, the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, audio navigation for visually impaired passengers, and ASL video relay interpretation. Central Roofing Company is a naming partner for the sensory rooms. MSP, the 18th busiest airport in the U.S., served 34.7 million travelers in 2023 and holds the highest level of accessibility accreditation from Airports Council International. The new sensory rooms aim to make travel more inclusive and comfortable for passengers with sensory sensitivities.
