Information Exchange

Beginning in 1974, Toni Lippert of the Metropolitan Region XI Developmental Disabilities Task Force of the Metropolitan Health Board – Metropolitan Council (the regional Developmental Disabilities Council) published DD Information Exchange on a monthly basis.

For financial reasons, rather than have a separate publication and mailing, the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities joined forces with the Task Force in 1981 to publish a joint newsletter with two sections – Metro and State.

In September 1990, the Metropolitan Council stopped publication of DD Information Exchange. As a nine-year joint effort between the Metropolitan Council and the Governor's Council, the DD Information Exchange and the State Supplement endeavored to bring their readers policy issues, stories about people their contributions to their communities, conference summaries, abstracts of new publications, announcements of various training events, items of general interest, job openings and items in keeping with current best practices in the field of developmental disabilities.

The Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities then began publication of its own monthly newsletter, continuing to use the same mailing list as before. The first edition of Futurity appeared in November 1990. Futurity provided short articles on issues and concepts; announced RFPs (Requests for Proposals); provided lists of resource services and publications; and noted conferences and developments in the state, nationally and internationally.

For financial reasons, Futurity ended publication in June 1995.

In March 1995, the newsletter issues from October 1981 to March 1995 were used to compile a chronology of Minnesota and national events as reported in the "DD Newsletters."
