Opportunity gap closure

By 2035, 25 percent of all Minnesota residents will be of color. Today, already 30 percent of Minnesotans under 20 are of color. Minnesota is working towards closing opportunity gaps that exist by race, income, and other characteristics.

These differences, or gaps, often exist because societal structures—such as housing, jobs, economics, transportation, legal systems and social opportunities—are organized in ways that benefit some groups unfairly over others, whether intended or not. Gaps that begin early in life often persist and worsen, if unaddressed, and result in the disparities observed in the World’s Best Workforce outcomes.
