EU Says "Get On Board!" During Year of People With Disabilities

COLOGNE, GERMANY--"Get on board!"

That's the message behind the European Union's Year of People with Disabilities of 2003.

Last Friday, Germany kicked off the year of projects, seminars and public awareness campaigns designed to "drive progress towards achieving equal rights for people with disabilities". Across the continent, attention will be focused on the many areas where barriers still exist for Europeans with disabilities to have equal opportunities and be fully included in their communities.

One of the largest initiatives is a People's March for integration which began in Athens, Greece at the beginning of the year. The march will eventually include all countries in the EU before it ends in Italy this December.
