The Board accomplishes the mission of promoting public health and safety in relation to the barbering profession and barbering services proved to the public by:
Setting standards of practice and conduct;
Reviewing applications in a thorough manner to ensure compliance with statutes and rules;
Setting educational requirements and examination standards;
Conducting barber examinations to assure professional standards of service are met;
Inspecting barber shops and schools to ensure compliance with statues and rules;
Responding to inquiries, complaints, and reports regarding registrations and conduct of registered barbers and unregistered practitioners;
Providing information and education to the public;
Providing clear and concise inspection reports of barber shops.
As a regulatory Board the mission of the Board of Barber Examiners is to promote public health and safety by assuring that barbers are appropriately trained and demonstrate the skills necessary to conduct barber services in a safe, sanitary, and appropriate environment.
The Board's registration and inspection processes are designed to assure that barbers and barbershops meet or exceed the legislative and Board established criteria designed to protect public health and safety.

The Board has begun the rule making process to update MN Rules Chapter 2100 to align with MN Statute 154 changes enacted during the 2013 legislative session. The Preliminary Rule Proposal identifies the specific rules proposed for change and the related statute supporting the change. You will find the proposal buy clicking Preliminary Rule Proposal. The Revisors office has certified a draft of the rules and you will find it by clicking Rule Draft. On October 21, 2013 the Board received notice that the Governor's Office approves of the preliminary form for the administrative rule proposal. Next the rule proposal will be submitted to the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) for legal review. You may submit comments regarding the proposed rule changes to the Office of Administrative Hearings by United States Mail to Office of Administrative Hearings, PO Box 6460, St. Paul, MN 55164-0620 or electronic mail to email@example.com The comment period is five business days from the submission of the proposal. The proposal is scheduled to be submitted to OAH on Monday October 28, 2013. You must include ID Number RD4223 with your comments.
