    January 06, 2014 - ROSEVILLE – Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius has informed district superintendents and charter school directors that the decision about school cancellations for Tuesday is up to individual school districts. School superintendents are monitoring temperatures and local conditions closely, and are prepared to communicate with families so they can plan accordingly.

PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton released this statement today following the news that former Minnesota Speaker of the House Rod Searle has passed away.   "I had the opportunity to work with former Speaker Rod Searle during his distinguished service in the Minnesota legislature. Rod was a principled leader, a dedicated public servant, and a true gentleman. He was elected Speaker of the House in 1979, because he held the respect and trust of both Republican and DFL members in that deadlocked chamber.   "On behalf of all Minnesotans, I extend to his family my deepest condolences and my appreciation for his service to our state."

  • Governor Dayton Announces Minnesota Public Schools Will Be Closed Monday
    January 03, 2014 - ST. PAUL, MN – To protect Minnesota schoolchildren from forecasted dangerously cold weather, Governor Mark Dayton announced today that all of the state’s K-12 public schools will be closed next Monday, January 6th. The National Weather Service predicts that most of the state will experience the coldest temperatures in a decade next Monday, with lows reaching -30 degrees and wind chills predicted to reach as low as -50 degrees. High temperatures from International Falls to Rochester are forecasted to be only -15 degrees.
