PAUL, MN – As Minnesota’s “Hire a Veteran Month” continues, Governor Mark Dayton announced today that July also marks the new expansion of eligibility for Minnesota GI Bill benefits. This session Governor Dayton signed a measure designed to give more Minnesota veterans access to the financial aid resources they need to pursue a higher education. For many Minnesota veterans who were previously ineligible for GI Bill benefits, that could mean up to $10,000 to help pay for college or other post-secondary studies.

PAUL, MN – Today, the Minnesota Department of Management and Budget (MMB) released its quarterly economic update, showing that due to strong economic growth, the state has collected an additional $463 million above previous revenue forecasts. The education bill signed into law this session by Governor Dayton requires that this new revenue be used to accelerate the payback of funds borrowed from local school districts by previous legislatures.

Governor Dayton encourages all Minnesota employers to help connect military service members with employment opportunities during the month of July, and to continue hiring veterans in all twelve months of the year. PAUL, MN – A subcabinet of state agency commissioners working to develop the next generation of opportunities for people with disabilities is seeking input throughout Minnesota this summer. Beginning July 9, the subcabinet will hold listening sessions in St. Paul, Moorhead, Duluth and Rochester to gather citizen input on a draft Olmstead Plan, named after a 1999 U.S. Supreme Court decision that expanded the rights of people with disabilities. The public can also comment on the plan online or by email.
