Today, the Gopher Women’s Hockey team was honored by Governor Dayton for their continued dominance of NCAA Division I hockey, and their back-to-back National Championship titles.
With a win over Boston University, the Gopher Women’s Hockey team capped their second consecutive undefeated season becoming the first NCAA Division I hockey team to do so. The Gopher Women’s Hockey team is a formidable presence in collegiate athletics, and has earned considerable acclamation for all their accomplishments.
Governor Dayton was joined by University of Minnesota Athletic Director Norwood Teague, Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court Lorie Gildea, and Goldy Gopher in proclaiming April 15, 2013 as “Gopher Women’s Hockey National Championship Day”. A copy of the proclamation can be found on the Governor’s website.
Chief Justice Gildea commented that the accomplishments of the team are what result when women are given an equal and fair chance to compete. The Governor added that their character, both on and off the ice, is what gives Gopher Women’s Hockey the reputation it deserves, and makes them a source of pride for the State of Minnesota.
