Mcgyan Biodiesel created a new way to produce biodiesel that is changing how the industry produces this renewable fuel. The key to this new technology is a “highly efficient, heterogeneous metal oxide-based catalyst reactor that efficiently and economically converts feedstock plant oils and animal fats to biodiesel.”
There are several benefits to this revolutionary biodiesel process, including the reaction time and effectiveness. The Mcgyan process takes only seconds while other biodiesel processes take hours. More importantly, current waste products such as grease / used cooking oil, animal tallow, and a variety of plant oils can all be used whereas other processes are limited in their materials.
The technology was initially developed by Dr. Peter W. Carr at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Chemistry and then conceived for biodiesel use by Professor Arlin Gyberg at Augsburg College and by Dr. Clayton McNeff, the cofounder of Ever Cat Fuels, LLC.
Recently, McNeff’s company received a $500,000 U.S. Department of Energy grant as a part of a larger project to develop inedible energy crops for the production of advanced biofuels, using the Mcgyan process. McNeff said that his company is intending to build two 3 million-gallon Mcgyan biodiesel plants next year at ethanol facilities.

The company’s innovative advances in biodiesel technology will help support Minneaota agriculture, an important cornerstone of the state’s economy.
