Zone for Youth logo

Finding a job can be challenging for teenagers and young adults, especially if you have little experience or it's your first time looking for work. It's hard to know where and how to begin.

Here you'll find basic information to help start your job search off on the right foot. In addition, some of our WorkForce Centers have special "Zones" where teens and young adults can get job and career counseling and much more. In the Minneapolis area, contact Leona Martin at 612-520-3542 for more information regarding service for youth.

Identifying Your Skills and Interests

You need to identify five to 10 skills that are the most attractive to potential employers. The more skills you have identified, the easier it will be to convince a potential employer that you have what it takes to do the job.

Starting Your Job Search

Once you’ve identified your interests and skills, it’s time to start looking for that job through networking and contacting employers.

Getting That Job

Here are some rules of thumb to keep in mind when you meet a potential employer either to get information, to fill out an application or for an interview.

Keeping That Job

Follow these few rules for success and you'll be happy with your job. And your employer will be happy to have chosen you.

Find the Zone Near You

Career information, job skills assessment, information on education and training opportunities, Internet access. The Zone brings it all together in one place for teens and young adults.
