Minnesota's sister relationships with other states and cities around the world help create and reinforce cultural ties, build important educational and political bridges, and pave the way for mutually beneficial business investment.
Minnesota has two active sister-state relationships.
Shaanxi Province, China
The Minnesota-Shaanxi relationship, which was established in 1983, is actively managed by the U.S.-China People’s Friendship Association of Minnesota.
State of Haryana, India
Minnesota’s agreement with Haryana was forged in 2007. The relationship is managed by the Minnesota Trade Office. Contact the Trade Assistance Helpline at 651-259-7498 or email Mto.TradeAssistance@state.mn.us.
Many Minnesota cities maintain sister-city relationships with cities around the world. Sister-city relationships are managed by individual cities rather than by the state. Sister-cities for some of Minnesota’s largest cities are provided below. Contact your city for a current list or visit Sister-Cities International for information.
