Advisory Groups

Boards, councils, task forces, commissions, and other advisory groups affiliated with DEED help guide the work of DEED and advocate for its customers.

DEED is responsible for some of the groups; the DEED commissioner or designee chairs those. For others, DEED is a member but does not have primary responsibility. DEED lists all of them here in the interest of following Open Meeting Law requirements (Minn. Stat. § 13D) of keeping the public informed of these groups' meetings.

Minnesotans are encouraged to apply for positions on these advisory groups; see the Secretary of State's Open Commissions & Appointments webpage for information.

  • Extended Employment Rule Advisory Committee

    Purpose
    The Extended Employment Rule Advisory Committee will be gathering input and making recommendations regarding the Minnesota Statutes Rule Chapter 268A which will affect consumers, and change how Community Rehabilitation Providers are reimbursed by the state.

  • Minnesota Agricultural and Economic Development Board

    Purpose
    The Minnesota Agricultural and Economic Development Board directs agricultural economic development for the state.

    Meeting Schedule

  • Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Board

    Purpose
    The Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) Board oversees the selection of grantees for MJSP and Dislocated Worker projects.

  • Public Facilities Authority Board

    Purpose
    The Public Facilities Authority (PFA) Board manages state revolving funds for drinking water, wastewater, and transportation infrastructure.

    Meeting Schedule
    There are no regularly scheduled meetings. The board meets three to four times per year on an as-needed basis; those special meetings are posted to the PFA Board webpage.

  • Trade Policy Advisory Council

    Purpose
    The Minnesota Trade Policy Advisory Council advises and assists the governor and legislature on issues related to United States trade agreements and assesses the potential impact of federal trade agreements on the state's economy.

  • Unemployment Insurance Advisory Council

    Purpose
    The Unemployment Insurance (UI) Advisory Council advises on UI program direction and reform.

  • Urban Initiative Board

    Purpose
    The Urban Initiative Board enhances urban development through minority business enterprises/job creation.

    Purpose
    The BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota Board develops public/private sector strategies for growing Minnesota's bioscience industry.

  • Broadband Task Force

    Purpose 
    The Broadband Task Force develops policies to promote the expansion of broadband access throughout Minnesota.

  • Employee Misclassification Advisory Task Force

    Purpose
    The Employee Misclassification Advisory Task Force advises on employee misclassification and "off-the-books" payment of construction industry workers.

  • Environmental Quality Board

    Purpose
    The Environmental Quality Board oversees environmental issues of interdepartmental concern.

  • Governor's Workforce Development Council

    Purpose
    The Governor's Workforce Development Council (GWDC) analyzes and recommends workforce development policy to ensure a globally competitive workforce for Minnesota.

  • Indian Affairs Council

    Purpose
    The Indian Affairs Council analyzes and recommends legislation and information on programs, proposals, and projects of importance to tribal governments and nontribal Indian organizations.

  • iSeek Solutions Executive Board

    Purpose
    The iSeek Solutions Executive Board works with the state's workforce development and education authorities to develop and inform policy and to strategize services for career planning, education and e-learning, and workforce development.

  • Local Workforce Investment Boards

    Purpose
    The Local Workforce Investment Boards guide and oversee local workforce efforts. The boards/councils cover various workforce service areas and work with partners in the Minnesota Workforce Council Association (MWCA).

  • Minnesota Council on Transportation Access

    Purpose
    The Minnesota Council on Transportation Access makes recommendations to improve all aspects of transportation services provided to the transit public.

  • Minnesota District Export Council

    Purpose
    The Minnesota District Export Council encourages and supports export growth in Minnesota.

  • NextGen Energy Board

    Purpose
    The NextGen Energy Board researches and develops energy sources to displace fossil fuels with renewable technology.

  • N. Mpls. WFC Community Advisory Council

    Purpose
    The North Minneapolis WorkForce Center (WFC) Community Advisory Council is a temporary group supporting a new site location for the N. Mpls. WFC. It provides for community input at key points in the proposal evaluation and project development process.

  • Rural Finance Authority

    Purpose
    The Rural Finance Authority issues bonds to develop the state's agricultural resources by extending credit on real estate security.

  • Small Business Development Center Advisory Board

    Purpose
    The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Advisory Board advises the state director on program operations; it has only advisory capacity and does not regulate or direct SBDC functions or activities.

  • State Rehabilitation Council

    Purpose
    The State Rehabilitation Council advises on Vocational Rehabilitation Services programs.

    Purpose

  • Statewide Independent Living Council

    Purpose
    The Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) helps develop the State Plan for Independent Living and advises on Independent Living programs, services and facilities.

  • Technology Standards for Accessibility and Usability

    Purpose
    The Advisory Committee for Technology Standards for Accessibility and Usability reviews and recommends evaluation standards; exception processes; resources for training and technical assistance; customer accessibility and usability comments; proposals to fund captioning of live Webcasts, podcasts and other emerging technologies; accessibility program operations; individual agency accessibility plans; new or amended accessibility standards and policies; and any determination that an accessibility standard poses an undue burden on the state.

  • Trade Policy Advisory Council

    Purpose
    The Trade Policy Advisory Council (TPAC) advises and assists the governor and the legislature regarding U.S. trade agreements.

  • Transportation Finance Advisory Committee

    Purpose
    The Transportation Finance Advisory Committee recommends new ways to finance a better state transportation infrastructure.

Other members include: Metropolitan Council chair, DEED commissioner, an economist, and representatives of the business and investment communities, unions and county government.
