State Commerce Commissioner bringing flood tour to Crookston, Moorhead

Commissioner Mike Rothman to discuss flood insurance with local officials, tour flood plain

ST. PAUL, MN - Minnesota Department of Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman will visit Crookston and Moorhead on Tuesday, February 15 as part of a statewide flood insurance education and outreach tour. Rothman's tour will include communities that the National Weather Service (NWS) has indicated are at risk for flooding in the upcoming spring melt.

"This tour is a proactive effort to inform Minnesota residents and businesses about flood insurance, and further solidify state-local collaboration on flood preparation and response efforts," Rothman said. "Minnesota communities may experience record flood levels this spring. It is our responsibility to work together, plan ahead, and do everything possible to ensure communities and residents are prepared."

Commissioner Rothman will begin his visit in at City Hall. Crookston's Community Development Director, Mike MacDonald; Richard Rock, Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director; Tim Motherway, Police Chief and Assistant Emergency Management Director; Aaron Parrish, City Administrator; and members of the City Council will be among those visiting with the Commissioner to discuss flood insurance issues and other flood-related concerns.

Commissioner Rothman will spend the afternoon in Moorhead, where he will meet with Moorhead Mayor Mark Voxland. Members of the Moorhead City Council and staff, the Clay County Commission and staff, Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce, Moorhead Business Association and insurance agents have also been invited to attend.

Following both meetings, city officials will accompany Commissioner Rothman on a tour of the riverbanks and flood-prone residences and businesses. Members of the press are encouraged to attend the public meeting and join local officials on the tour. The agenda for the afternoon is listed below.
