America Saves Week is a great opportunity to identify the big and small ways to save for your long-term goals.

One often overlooked budget line item is your energy bill. Our experts at the Division of Energy Resources recommend the following tips save energy and money:

    • Unplug appliances when not in use.
    • Use a programmable thermostat.
    • Get a home energy audit.
    • Close off unused rooms.
    • Add insulation, weather strip and caulk windows and doors to eliminate air leaks.
    • Turn the thermostat down a degree or two.
    • Maintain your heating system.
    • Take short showers—with low-flow showerheads—instead of baths to reduce hot water use.
    • Look for the ENERGY STAR® label when purchasing new household products.
