Agreement Reached with Allianz Life Insurance Company

06, 2012 - The Minnesota Department of Commerce announced a multi-state settlement agreement between Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America and 43 states. Iowa acted as the managing lead state in the agreement and was assisted by Minnesota, Missouri, and Florida.

Health Insurance Exchange Task Force to Visit New Ulm Wednesday

29, 2012 - A Task Force advising the Minnesota Department of Commerce in the design and development of a new health insurance marketplace for Minnesota consumers will meet in New Ulm on Wednesday, August 29 from 1:00-3:00 pm. The 15-member task force, chaired by Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman, is comprised of consumers, employers, health care providers, insurers, state legislators, and other health care experts.

Commerce Department returns $19 million to Minnesota consumers in 2012

07, 2012 - Sometimes money goes missing due to a change of address or a death in the family. That’s when the Minnesota Department of Commerce steps in to help Minnesotans find and claim what is rightfully theirs. This year alone the Commerce Department reunited 7,200 Minnesotans with $19 million in missing bank accounts, life insurance policies, safe deposit boxes, unclaimed paychecks, and other real property and financial assets – a 13 percent improvement over 2011.

Jewelry Heist Ends in Insurance Fraud, According to Commerce Department

26, 2012 - Formal charges have been filed in Kandiyohi County District Court on allegations that Spicer resident Todd Patrick Paffrath committed felony insurance fraud when a ring was stolen from his Willmar jewelry store last December. According to a formal investigation conducted by the Minnesota Department of Commerce’s Insurance Fraud Unit, Paffrath allegedly submitted an insurance claim after the diamond ring was stolen under a false appraisal for $10,000 more than the ring’s actual value.
