In Minnesota, Silver and Gold Plans Cost Less than Bronze Plans Across the U.S.

Minnesotans can purchase better plans at lower rates.  In Minnesota, MNsure bronze, silver, and gold plans cost less than the average bronze plan in other states.

Beginning in 2014, Minnesotans will see expanded value in the new health plans. Not only will consumers not have to worry about losing coverage due to their health or any pre-existing diagnoses, more benefits are covered under the new plans.  

Minnesota’s rate review process protects and ensures that consumers are paying premiums that reflect the value of their health plan.


What new benefits are included?

The health insurance plans that will be offered through MNsure and in the standard insurance market, are guaranteed to provide basic levels of coverage and provide consumer protections including the 10 categories of essential health benefits:

  1. Ambulatory patient services
  2. Emergency services
  3. Hospitalization
  4. Maternity and newborn care
  5. Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment
  6. Prescription drugs
  7. Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices
  8. Laboratory services
  9. Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management
  10. Pediatric services
