  • Information for All Types of Agencies

    Name Change
    To change the name on an Agency insurance license, you must
    • Submit the request in writing
    • Attach the amended articles of incorporation that have been stamped and filed by the Secretary of State in the state of domicile
    • Fax all documents to the Department of Commerce at: 651-284-4206

    Designated Responsible Producer Change
    To change the designated responsible producer for your agency, go to www.sircon.com/minnesota to process the change electronically. Start by clicking on "Maintain your firm association."

     

     

  • Corporate or Partnership Agency

    1. Complete Agency license application online at Sircon Licensing. 

    2. After completing your online application, mail or fax (651-284-4206) to the Minnesota Department of Commerce, a Certificate of Assumed Name, filed and stamped by the Minnesota Secretary of State, if Agency Name is different from Legal Name of Partnership, Corporation, or other Business Entity. For example, this requirement applies to a partnership that intends to do business using an Agency name that does not include the first and last name of each individual partner, and this requirement applies to a corporation or business entity that intends to do business under an Agency name that is not the legal corporate name. Information about filing for a Certificate of Assumed Name may be obtained from the Secretary of State (www.sos.state.mn.us), telephone 651-296-2803.

    3. If the Resident Agency is a corporation mail or fax to the Minnesota Department of Commerce a copy of your Articles of Incorporation, as filed and stamped by the Secretary of State in your state of domicile. If the Resident Agency is a partnership, attach a copy of the partnership agreement signed by all partners. If the Resident Agency is a Limited Liability Company or other Business Entity, attach a copy of the Business Organization documents. 

    4. If the Agency is incorporated in another jurisdiction and intends to do business in Minnesota (i.e., has Minnesota resident producers), mail or fax a copy of the Certificate of Foreign Corporation issued by the Minnesota Secretary of State (www.sos.state.mn.us). 

    5. At least one Minnesota licensed insurance producer (resident or non-resident) must be working for the Agency. 

    6. Agencies are not licensed for specific lines of authority. An Agency's lines of authority correspond to the lines of authority of the individual producers affiliated within the Agency. 

    7. Agencies are not required to be appointed by insurance companies.

  • Individual Proprietorship Agency

    1. Complete Agency license application online at Sircon Licensing.

    2. At least one Minnesota licensed insurance producer must be working for the Agency.

    3. After completing your online application, mail or fax (651-284-4206) to the Department of Commerce a copy of Certificate of Assumed Name, filed and stamped by the Minnesota Secretary of State, if Agency Name is different from Legal Name of Individual. For example, this requirement applies to an individual proprietor who intends to do business using an Agency name that does not include the individual's first and last name. 2012 AGENCY LICENSE RENEWAL: Courtesy renewal reminder postcards were mailed in September to all agencies that are scheduled to renew by October 31, 2012. If you did not receive a postcard or no longer have it, see below for information on how to proceed. Renewals are performed online at www.sircon.com/minnesota. Step-by-step instructions follow.

Insurance Agency License Renewal

  1. Go to www.sircon.com/minnesota.
  2. Click on “Renew or Reinstate Your License.”
  3. On the page that appears, click on “Firm.”
  4. On the page that appears, select “Minnesota” from the Renewal State dropdown menu.
  5. Enter the agency’s EIN as it appears on the renewal postcard, even if the EIN on the postcard is incorrect. If the EIN on the postcard is incorrect, then AFTER you submit your renewal, go to www.commerce.state.mn.us/EINSubmission.html and provide your correct EIN information to the Minnesota Department of Commerce. If you no longer have the postcard or did not receive one, enter the agency’s correct EIN. If the system then indicates that no renewal for that EIN can be found, it may be that the EIN on file for your agency with the Department of Commerce is incorrect. You will need to contact the Minnesota Department of Commerce Licensing Division at 651-296-6319 or send an e-mail to Licensing.Commerce@state.mn.us with NEED POSTCARD EIN as the subject. In the body of the message, include the full agency name and license number. Please understand that high call volumes during peak times may lead to difficulty in getting through on the phone, and high e-mail volumes may lead to significant delays in receiving a response. Please be patient.
  6. Enter the agency’s Minnesota License Number, and click the “Continue” button.
  7. Ensure that the “Renew” checkbox corresponding to the license that you want to renew is checked.
  8. Click the “Continue” button.
  9. The page will refresh and the License Fee Summary section will appear, as will the Demographics section, the Questions for the Uniform Application, and an attestation. Enter any necessary information and click either the “Yes” or “No” radio button in response to each of the questions.
  10. Read the “Attestation” section, then click the “Agree” checkbox.
  11. Click the “Continue” button.
The “License Fee Summary” page will appear. Review it carefully, then click the non-refundable fee acknowledgement checkbox. If the information in the summary is incorrect, click the “Revise” button. In the screen that appears, change the incorrect information. Once the information in the summary is correct, click the “Process” button.

The Agency License Renewal page will appear. You will need to enter the billing information on this page and then click “Submit.”

The “Confirmation Information” page will appear. Please print the page for your records. The Confirmation ID number can be used to check the status of the renewal.
