Name Change
To change the name on an Agency insurance license, you must
• Submit the request in writing
• Attach the amended articles of incorporation that have been stamped and filed by the Secretary of State in the state of domicile
• Fax all documents to the Department of Commerce at: 651-284-4206
Designated Responsible Producer Change
To change the designated responsible producer for your agency, go to www.sircon.com/minnesota to process the change electronically. Start by clicking on "Maintain your firm association."
Complete Agency license application online at Sircon Licensing.
After completing your online application, mail or fax (651-284-4206) to the Minnesota Department of Commerce, a Certificate of Assumed Name, filed and stamped by the Minnesota Secretary of State, if Agency Name is different from Legal Name of Partnership, Corporation, or other Business Entity. For example, this requirement applies to a partnership that intends to do business using an Agency name that does not include the first and last name of each individual partner, and this requirement applies to a corporation or business entity that intends to do business under an Agency name that is not the legal corporate name. Information about filing for a Certificate of Assumed Name may be obtained from the Secretary of State (www.sos.state.mn.us), telephone 651-296-2803.
If the Resident Agency is a corporation mail or fax to the Minnesota Department of Commerce a copy of your Articles of Incorporation, as filed and stamped by the Secretary of State in your state of domicile. If the Resident Agency is a partnership, attach a copy of the partnership agreement signed by all partners. If the Resident Agency is a Limited Liability Company or other Business Entity, attach a copy of the Business Organization documents.
If the Agency is incorporated in another jurisdiction and intends to do business in Minnesota (i.e., has Minnesota resident producers), mail or fax a copy of the Certificate of Foreign Corporation issued by the Minnesota Secretary of State (www.sos.state.mn.us).
At least one Minnesota licensed insurance producer (resident or non-resident) must be working for the Agency.
Agencies are not licensed for specific lines of authority. An Agency's lines of authority correspond to the lines of authority of the individual producers affiliated within the Agency.
Agencies are not required to be appointed by insurance companies.
