Minnesota Energy Future Framework


Legislation passed in 2013 requires the Department of Commerce to develop the scope for a Minnesota Energy Future Study of how the state can transition to a sustainable energy system that does not rely on fossil fuels (Scoping for Renewable Energy Study: MN Laws 2013, Chapter 85 HF 729, Article 12, Section 7). The Department of Commerce must report the results of the scoping process to the Legislative Energy Commission by January 1, 2014. 

Timeline:

  • February 12, 2014 – Legislative Energy Commission meeting - Presentation of Minnesota Energy Future Study Scoping Report
  • January 1, 2014 - Scoping an Energy Future Study for Minnesota (.pdf) - This report, prepared by the Rocky Mountain Institute for the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources, develops the scope for a study of how Minnesota can achieve a sustainable energy system that does not rely on fossil fuels. The report identifies potential approaches and considerations to assess cross-sector opportunities in electrical, transportation, thermal, industrial, and agricultural sectors.
