Energy ratings of homes for sale added to MLS

Two fields that provide the energy ratings and green features of homes—the HERS score and green-certification check off—have been added to the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) of homes for sale in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) partnered with NorthstarMLS to bring this information to realtors and home buyers.

The new service, which began June 6, responds to a basic need of homebuyers—to choose a level of green and energy efficiency. The HERS (Home Energy Rating Service) score is a method by which a home’s energy efficiency is measured. Certified RESNET raters conduct on-site inspections and energy tests during construction and after completion. The second field represents a higher level of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability indicated by a “Green Certified” check off. Several green-build programs, such as LEED for Homes and MN GreenStar, offer certification to homes that meet their standards. Read more here for new information on MLS from BATC.
