Proposals sought to study structural loads of residential rooftop solar

The Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources is requesting proposals for technical services from qualified, licensed individuals or firms to complete a structural engineering analysis of residential rooftop solar energy systems on existing single family dwelling structures in Minnesota. Proposals are due April 22.

One goal of this solicitation is to reduce barriers to and soft costs of solar installations. If common building types can be identified so that structural considerations are addressed in a more prescriptive fashion without conducting a full structural engineering analysis for each solar installation, then costs can be reduced and it may lead to wider adoption of solar rooftop systems. The work requested is part of the Minnesota Solar Challenge, a U.S. Department of Energy funded program to facilitate deployment of rooftop solar systems. View the full RFP here.
