Addressing Veterinarian Shortage Areas in Minnesota
Help by identifying areas in need
Veterinarians working in food animal medicine may be eligible for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP). The program helps qualified veterinarians offset their student loan debt in return for their service in shortage situations. The Board would like your input on areas of veterinary shortage in Minnesota for this program. The Board must approve and submit shortage nominations by March 1, 2013. To provide information, please contact Dr. Linda Glaser or at 651-201-6828. Last year, six shortage area nominations in Minnesota were approved and three veterinarians received awards to offset student loan debt.
Bovine Tuberculosis Certification Training
To test cattle for bovine tuberculosis (TB) in Minnesota, accredited veterinarians must be certified by the Board of Animal Health. To become certified, accredited veterinarians and fourth-year veterinary students may attend a free TB certification training session at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine.
